Cajun's Rolle Named Co-Defensive POW

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns safety Maurice Rolle was named Co-Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.

Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns safety Maurice Rolle was named Co-Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, sharing it with Troy defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi.

Maurice Rolle was UL's hero Saturday afternoon, intercepting Arkansas State's quarterback Ryan Aplin's pass with 1:59 on the clock during the Red Wolves last drive to secure a Cajun victory. Rolle led the Cajuns with seven tackles,all solos and the game winning interception.

Troy's Jonathan Massaquoi was credited with eight total tackles (seven solo), which included two stops for losses, one of which was a sack. He forced a fumble on that sack and recovered a fumble on another play, his second recovery in as many games.

Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin was names Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week for posting a record setting 438 yards passing against Louisiana. Aplin completed 25-of-45 attempts for two touchdowns, while also adding his fi rst rushing touchdown of the season.

Troy wide-receiver/kick returner Jerel Jernigan was named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Jernigan finished the game with 277 all-purpose yards which included 171 on three kickoff returns, 11 on one punt return, 87 on 10 receptions, including a 10-yard touchdown, and eight on two rush attempts. Jernigan became only the fourth player in Sun Belt Conference history to return a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. Recommended Stories
