Pettis Now Considering Cajuns
"Coach Hudspeth was recruiting me at Mississippi State," Pettis said. "I was going to come in and visit in January, but now he has taken the ULL job and I'm going to visit in January with my teammate DeShaun McNeal. Coach Sallach hasn't talked to me in the last week, but he said he would bring me in at Mississippi State in January."
Larry's improvement during the 2010 season has raised interest from programs like Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas State, Louisiana and Louisiana-Monroe. What does he contribute to his improvement on the field this year?
b> "Probably the most obvious improvement has been the fact that I've grown into my body," stated Larry. "Last year I played at 215-pounds and I worked extremely hard during the offseason to get my weight up to 240-pounds. This spring I didn't play baseball so that I could do more weight lifting and conditioning. I've always been able to catch the ball and run good routes; With my added strength, my blocking has improved as well."
Larry Pettis is not only good friends with teammate DeShaun McNeal, but they're like brothers. McNeal now lives with the Pettis family and they have talked about playing college football together.
"DeShaun and I have talked about playing college football together at the same school," Pettis said. "When we started talking to Coach Hudspeth about attending Mississippi State together, it was something that became more of a possibility. Now that Coach is at ULL, I could see us playing together down there in Louisiana. Coach told us he has big plans for both of us in his program, so we are both excited."
Besides Mississippi State and UL, Pettis has decided to visit Louisiana-Monroe, but may not take any other visits once those are out of the way.
"I'm planning on taking my visit to Mississippi State once coach Sallach calls me," stated Larry. "DeShaun and I will definitely travel down to visit at ULL and coach Hudspeth. We are pretty excited about learning more about the program and getting a look at the campus facilities. I'm also going to keep my visit with coach Shelby at ULM in January."
Larry Pettis has scored a 17 on the ACT and maintains a 2.5 GPA in his core. He plans on taking the ACT one more time in January after going through a prep course.
