Billups Looking At Cajuns

With teammates DeShaun McNeal and Larry Pettis traveling down to Louisiana on visits, Oxford High quarterback Guy Billups is looking at adding his name to the visit list.

Watching Guy Billups on film brings several names to mind, Kellen Moore and Drew Brees. At "6-1", 175-pounds, Billups has a similar build and throwing mechanics of the other two. All Guy accomplished on his way to being named 2010 Coaches Class 5A Player of the Year was throw for over 2,915 yards and 33 touchdowns. Billups led the Oxford high Chargers to a 9-4 record, ranking second in the state of Mississippi on both passing yards and touchdowns. What kind of quarterback does Guy Billups believe he is?

"I think that I'm versatile enough to play in different offenses," Guy state. "We played out of the pro-set, but I'm cable of scrambling or running for yardage if necessary. The coaches didn't want me to run much; they would rather I throw the ball away instead of taking a lot of hits. I ran a 4.8 forty at several camps, so I can run a little."

Billups can work out of the shotgun and from under the center, but it is his accuracy and footwork that has attracted a number of programs including Rice, Southern Miss. and talk from Florida State of walking on. Will Billups visit the Cajuns with his teammates?

"I haven't spoken to Coach Hudspeth since he has been down in Louisiana," said Billups. "Larry and DeShaun are asking me to come with them on their visit in January; I'm just waiting on Coach Hudspeth to give me a call and I would love to come in on a visit. I know him pretty well and the type of offense he likes to run, so we would all love to play together in college."

Guy Billups comes from a football family, but academics are important to him as well.

"I'm interested in sports medicine," Guy stated. "I scored a 28 on my first ACT, but I plan on taking it again with a calculator this time. I would have scored higher on the math portion had I brought a calculator to take the test. I'd like to bring that score up to give myself a few more options."

Guy Billups is waiting on Coach Hudspeth's call so that he can add one more option to his choices of college programs.
