Columbia High's LB/DE
Dominique Tovell
has given his verbal commitment to Coach Hudspeth and the Ragin'Cajuns. Tovell verified via phone this morning that he committed last night and will visit on January 21st.
"I called Coach Stewart to let him know I didn't want to wait," Tovell stated. "I told coach that I wanted to become a Ragin'Cajun and wanted to give my commitment before coming in on a visit. Coach told me that he had to call Coach Hudpseth, but he was excited about getting me in to work at the MLB/OLB positions."
Tovell, a 6-3”, 230-pound senior with 4.59 speed, just completed the 2010 season with 95 tackles, six sacks, 4 FF and 1 interception returned for a touchdown. What makes those numbers even more impressive is the fact that Tovell played both ways, being named to the WDAM All-Area Football Team at the TE position. He caught 33 passes on the season for over 390 yards and six touchdowns.
Dominique didn't have to wait too long before Coach Hudspeth called him about his commitment.
"Coach Hudspeth sounded really excited on the phone," said Tovell. "He talked about the direction of the program and me coming in on the visit to get a look at the facilities and meet with the defensive staff. I'm really excited about getting this out of the way and with all the exciting things going on with the program, UL is the place I wanted to play."
Dominique Tovell will start out at the middle linebacker position for the Cajuns, but will work out at outside linebacker as well.
"Coach Stewart told me they have lost two starters at linebacker and I would have a chance to some in and compete right away," Dominique stated. "I plan on going in down there during the summer and working out with the rest of the team to prepare for my freshman season."
Dominique Tovell is in good shape academically, having already scored an 18 on the ACT and maintaining a 3.2 GPA. He plans retaking the ACT once more to raise his score in January.
