Washington Focuses On Visit

West St. John HS (LA) Linebacker Darzil Washington has set a visit to Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns this weekend. Washington talks about the 2010 season and college interest with the Cajun Redzone.

What Louisiana prep linebacker is "6-3", 226-pounds and voted linebacker MVP at the National Under Classmen Ultimate 100 Camp this past summer? That would be West St. John's Darzil Washington. So how does an athletic linebacker that was All-District, nominated to play in three all-star games (Max Emfinger's International Bowl, River Parish All-Star Game and Texas-Louisiana All Star Game) virtually go unnoticed by most recruiting networks and major college football programs?

"I tore my ACL at the beginning of the football season my junior year at Hahnville," Darzil stated. "So while other seniors were heading to camps with video from their junior years, I had nothing to give staffs. I couldn't send out any video from the previous season because I was injured and I didn't have any film from my sophomore season. So in attending some of the summer camps, I was trying to get my name out there amongst college programs."

Darzil Washington has done everything he can on the football field to change minds about him, including his four-sack game against rival St. James.

"I think once people saw me play this season, they new I was healthy," Washington said. "I had a good season and played hard every time I stepped on the field. I loved to hit people and let them know I was going to hit them hard all night long. They were going to have to contend with me on the defensive side of the ball."

So what has changed recently with programs like UL, Texas A&M and LSU showing new interest in the New Orleans native and what does he know about the Cajuns new staff?

"I recently scored a 21 on my ACT, so now program's like ULL, LSU and Texas A&M has picked up my transcripts," Darzil stated. "Now that I have the ACT score and a 2.5 GPA, interest has started to pick up for me. ULL came by an offered me and I set a visit for this weekend with Coach Rebowe. Coach Hudspeth told me that I could come in and make a statement helping them win a conference championship. He coached at Mississippi State and talked about the things they are going to do as an up and coming program. I looking forward to going in and visit with the defensive coaches, and getting a look at the facilities this weekend."
