Christmas Eve was a very important day in the life of
Larry Pettis
. On that day, Larry decided he would be a Ragin' Cajun. Larry has not once looked back with any regret. He knew the first time he met
Mark Hudspeth
that he wanted to play football for him. Now Pettis is doing everything he can to make sure he "Plays” for him next year.
Pettis has always been a workout warrior, but the Cajuns have caused the 6ft 5 245lb TE to pick up his game.
"They sent me this workout packet and I am making sure I do that every single day. I have also been working with the track and field coaches on getting faster. I recently broke the school record in the discus and have learned I am pretty good at that. That’s something that I would like to continue to do."
One thing Coach Johnny Hill never had to worry about with Larry was if he was getting it done in the classroom. Larry is making sure Coach HUD doesn’t have to worry either.
"Well I registered with the clearinghouse and made my ACT score. We got our progress reports today and my grades are all good. I have decided that what I would like to do is become a Federal Game Warden. I love to hunt and fish so that would suit me good."
Pettis has been in contact with the coaches at UL and is coming to Lafayette with a purpose.
"I talk to Coach Hud all the time. Plus I have gotten really close with Coach Stringer. They both feel like with my work ethic that I can come down there and play this year. That’s my goal, come in and work hard and learn from Peewee."
Larry was named 5A First Team All-State by the Mississippi Association of Coaches. He made 34 receptions for 434 yards and scored five touchdowns at tight end. Defensively, he notched 82 tackles, six sacks and forced four fumbles.
