Catching Up with the Cajuns-Dominique Tovell

Every year a college football team has a position that a freshman can come in and earn some playing time. One position every team needs depth is the Linebacker position. The Cajuns looked hard for depth at linebacker and last year hit the jackpot with Columbia (MS) HS linebacker Dominique Tovell. The Cajun Redzone talks to Dominique about his workout plans and hanging out with some future teammates at the Spring Game.

The Spring Game was the first time Tovell got to experience the Cajun Field atmosphere and he was blown away.

"I could not believe they got that many people to a Spring Game, I mean a spring game. I was so surprised the all showed up. The tailgating was awesome too. I look up in the stands during the game and people were standing and cheering, it was just an awesome experience. I got to hang out with Effrem Reed, Montrel Carter, and Marcus Jackson. It was cool to hangout with my future teammates. I can't wait until the first home game next year."

Another thing Tovell liked was getting a chance to catch up with some of his future coaches.

"I talk to Coach Stewart and Coach Stringer all the time. I got to meet Coach Edwards and he was a cool guy. I wouldn't mind getting to know him a lot better."

Dominique is working hard on the Cajuns workout plan and going the extra mile to get ready for his freshman season.

"I have been doing the workout plan everyday. But I am taking it up a notch. When I run my 100 I am pulling the weighted sled behind me. Then every night before I go to bed I am doing extra setups and pushups and pull-ups."

One area Tovell has taken care of things is in the classroom.

"All I got to do now is graduate. I have taken all the classes I need to take and have my ACT score. I am just going to school now to be going. I know as of today I have 38 days until I report to Lafayette. I cant wait. I just want to let everyone know I am very excited to be a Cajun and cant wait until I get there."

Tovell, a 6-3", 230-pound senior with 4.59 speed, completed the 2010 season with 95 tackles, six sacks, 4 FF and 1 interception returned for a touchdown.
