The UL football program received some good news recently that Big Fred Moore out of Heidelberg HS (MS) has qualified and will report in June for summer workouts. The offensive line is a position of need for the Ragin’Cajuns and Moore is ready to work!
The news was good this past week for Coach Hudspeth and his staff, as Heidelberg HS offensive lineman Fred Moore has qualified to enroll at UL this summer. The offensive line was a position that is very thin in numbers for spring and is a position of need. The staff had confidence that Moore would qualify when they signed him back in February.
“Yes sir, I’ve qualified and I’m ready to go,” stated Moore whom missed the spring game to take the ACT in April. “I scored a 17 on the ACT and I finished with a 2.9 GPA for the year. We graduate this weekend and then I’m going to come down to Lafayette June 5th and begin summer workouts.”
Big Fred was a preseason Mississippi Top 45 prospect last year and continued to receive calls from
Mississippi State
,
Ole Miss
and
Southern Miss
after committing to UL in January. Moore has been in contact with coaches weekly and his future teammate
Jaron Odom
.
“I talk to Coach Stringer several times a week, he stays on me,” laughed Fred. “I also get calls from my boy Jaron Odom every week as well and we talk about the program and me coming down to work out through the summer. My parents and I are very excited right now and I will be ready to go when I get there June 5th.”
When Moore wasn’t focused on academics, he was working on his conditioning schedule sent to him by the coaching staff.
“I’ve been working hard with the program coach sent me everyday,” Fred said. “I have my bench max up to 365 pounds and my squat is around 475 pounds right now. The workout has something for me to do everyday to get stronger and better conditioned.”
As a senior,
Frederick Moore
was one of four defensive linemen named to the WDAM 25th annual All-Area Football Team, totaling 68 tackles and 6 sacks as a senior. He was also a member of Max Preps Mississippi All-Region 2010 Team.
Before big Fred Moore heads down to Lafayette, there is the matter of taking a senior trip.
“My school is putting together a senior trip for us and we are going to Blue Bayou Water Park,” Moore stated. “I haven’t been there, so we are all kind of excited about graduation and taking the trip down there to the water park. It will be the last time I have with most of my class, so it will be fun to do that together. Since I will be close to Lafayette, maybe I will just leave from the water park,” Fred laughed.”
The last laugh is Fred’s now because he qualified and will be playing college football, while some programs didn’t believe that he could become eligible.
