Winston Holding New Offer

Richwood High (La) DE Blain Winston is quietly putting together quality performances in college football camps this summer. The "6-4", 230-pound junior has picked up an offer from Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns and is headed to more camps in July.

Every year Louisiana high school football produces some of the top talent in the country. Louisiana produced 85 Division One athletes in the 2011 Signing Class and this year should be another quality class. Amongst those names, exist a number of athletes that are not house hold names during the summer, but have become sleeper prospects. Richwood's Blain Winston is one of those sleeper prospects that is beginning to garner his share of attention in recent college football camps. Winston spoke to the Cajun Redzone about his recent camp performance and about his offer from the Ragin' Cajuns.

"I was really excited about coming down to Lafayette to attend the UL camp," Blain stated. "After they stretched us out, we worked in individual drills and then we worked out in one-on-one drills against the offensive linemen. I thought that I won my share of battles against some quality linemen; I've improved my technique since I'm finished with basketball. I recognized some of the linemen that I went up against and I thought I held my own against them."

"Coach Edwards told me I had a good camp and that they would come up to see me play in the fall. After camp, I spoke to Coach Loving and he said they wanted to offer me so I called Coach Hudspeth and he told me I had an offer. Coach Hudspeth told me they are excited about offering me and they wanted me to become part of the football program at UL. I really like the program and the staff; they are definitely a program that I like a lot."

The Cajuns aren't the only program showing strong interest in Blain Winston, several others are close to offering him.

"Arkansas State, McNeese State and ULM have all stated they are close to offering me, and just want to see some of my video," said Winston. "I've also heard from Louisiana Tech and Houston. A few other programs have sent information or been in contact, but those are the most recent."

With the increase of interest from college football recruiters, Winston has set an aggressive camp schedule for July.

"I'm headed out to Houston tomorrow," Blain stated. "I'm also going to head up to TCU and also ULM in a week. I was suppose to go down to McNeese, but I couldn't make it down to their camp. I'm going to try and get down there this month."

Blain Winston made a 19 on his first ACT test and completed the academic year with a 2.9 GPA.
