Heard Ready for Season

Remember the name, Charles Heard. While he may not be a house hold name just yet, he will be. Charles made the move from Houston(MS) HS where he starred as a LB/TB to the defending 5A State Champion West Point Green Wave. The move gives West Point some much needed experience, and Heard is using his Senior Season as a way to get college coaches attention.

A clash of the titans? Maybe. But all of Mississippi is looking forward to the first week of the season when defending 5A champion West Point does battle with defending 6A champion South Panola. While most would be anxious or nervous about such a clash, Charles Heard isnt.

"I have wanted to step on the field with South Panola sionce I started playing football. I have always wanted to play the best. And they are the best in the country. I cant wait. We have more than just a chance to beat them. We are not gong out there expecting to lose. We want to win."

Moving from a small town like Houston to a football powerhouse like West Point might make some kids nervous. Heard said he got a totally different reaction.

"Man the whole town and school have welcomed me with open arms. Coach Chambless and the entire team treat me like family. I came here not expecting to be taken in so quickly, but these people are my family now. Its been a great experience. We start practice the week after next. I cant wait."

Several schools have taken notice of the best kept secret in 5A already, and look for that to continue when everyone learns Charles is a member of the Green Wave.

"I have been to camp at UAB and Alabama. I really want to go to camp at UL as well. I also plan on taking trips to Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee. I plan on calling UL and trying to get down to their camp. I have heard great things about theirs coaches and I want to check them out.

Last year Heard rushed for 865yds and 7tds. He also had 50 tackles and 3 sacks.
