North Pontotoc (Ecru, MS) Running Back Mitchell Cunningham left Lafayette a few weeks very impressed…
"I Just Want To Prove Myself"
For a while now, Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns have been the team to beat for Cunningham. But some recent camp visits have opened up some eyes of other coaches and Mitchell Himself. One school new on Mitchell's radar is the Ole Miss Rebels.
"I went to their elite camp. First thing I did was run the 40. They couldnt believe how fast I was so they lasar timed me. After that run, Coach Houston Nutt came up to me how good I looked. Then we started doing drills. Coach Nutt pulled me to the side and told me that I was just an athlete, a great player. He said that I would be the perfect fullback for his offense. He told me to send him my first three game films. He said that i definately had a spot at Ole Miss. He also told me to come to as many games as I want, heck come to em all he said. As I was getting ready to leave the RB Coach came up to me and told me he was very impressed and that he was gonna do whatever it took to get me to Ole Miss."
Another in state school has started zoning in on Cunningham as well.
"I called and talked to Coach Greg Knox, the running back coach at Mississippi State. He was so happy I called him. He knew exactly who I was from my camp time at State. He told me that I had so much heart and so much drive. I told him I just want to play D1 football and if I had to walk on to do it that I would. He said that statement alone told him everything he needed to know about me. That he knew I would succeed because he could tell already that I would out work anyone. He said the same thing, send me your first three game films, come to out games, and I will find you a spot at MSU."
A constant school on Mitchell's radar has been the Ragin Cajuns. Mitchell Just attended their elite camp and reports that the coaches like what they saw.
"Man there was alot of good competition at the camp. Alot of good LB's and alot of good athletes. If their signing class will be made up of 25 from that group its going to be a great class. We had so much fun. All of us were out there talking smack to each other(Laughs). All the coaches said that I looked so much better. Coach Lovings said I was alot smoother in my cuts and breaks and he could tell I was working on that. He told me form sure he would keep in touch with me. They said come to as many games as I could make as well. Coach Hud told me he didnt know how the numbers would work out just yet, but he might have a spot for me as an athlete. He really wanted me there, though. Heck, I dont care where I play. Put me at safety and i will knock out every WR in the Sunbelt.(Laughs). We ran a football obstacle course and of course I won. I told Coach Hud I was going to before it started anyway. I just want a shot to prove I belong. I promise you, nobody will out work me, nobody wants it as bad as I do, and you will never have to worry if I am working hard or if I am in class."
