Allen Takes In Cajuns Scrimmage

New Iberia HS (La) WR La Marcus Allen is one of South Louisiana's top sleeper's prospects in the 2012 Class. The "6-1", 185-pound athlete attended UL's football scrimmage Saturday to watch the Cajuns and visit with the staff afterwards.

With an offer already in hand, New Iberia Senior High wide receiver La Marcus Allen attend his second UL scrimmage this fall. The senior athlete liked what he saw during the scrimmage on the offensive side of the ball.

"I attended their first scrimmage last week and you could see the improvement this Saturday," Allen stated. "They use a lot of the same formations that we use in our offense, but they run the ball more out of those offensive sets. You could see that the execution was much better and the offense move the ball more consistently."

Allen is looking towards a big senior year in the Yellow Jackets offense. He showed flashes of what he is capable of doing in a scrimmage against 4A power Breaux Bridge, totaling 195 yards receiving and scoring 3 TDs.

"We scrimmaged Breaux Bridge last week and we knew going in that they are a very good team," said La Marcus. "They were playing cover one and I caught the ball underneath the coverage and scored on our first play of the game. I ended that game with 195 yards receiving and scored 3 touchdowns."

La Marcus Allen had a number of schools like Nebraska, Texas A&M, LSU, UL, McNeese State, Tulane, Grambling, and Southern came by to watch New Iberia's spring practice. He separated his shoulder early in spring and most of college coaches didn't get the chance to see him play. The Cajun staff didn't wait long to get him into camp this summer and offer him.

"Coach Hudson had told me that UL had offered after the camp," Allen stated. I had a good feeling after their camp that I could get an offer from them after I ran 4.38, but it feels great to pick up my first D1 offer. I'm really excited about it and look forward to talking to the coaches during the season. They told me after the camp that they really liked my performance and would look at the video that we gave them. Coach Hudspeth said that he really liked me and they would stay on me during my senior season, so I was happy they offered me."
