Winget Headed to Junior Days

Winget Headed to Junior Days

Mandeville HS (LA) all-state linebacker Preston Winget has received three new junior day invitations. The "6-2", 215-pound senior- to- be has a number of interested suitors right now, will be looking to schedule summer camps soon.

All-State Linebacker Preston Winget made a name for himself last season on a very good Mandeville high football team. Mandeville (11-3) lost to eventual 5A state champion West Monroe in the state playoffs and Winget is a returning member of a very good Skipper defense. The senior-to-be finished his junior season with over a 140 tackles for 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 1 interception. Winget spoke to the Cajun Redzone about his junior day plans this spring.

"I plan on attending three school's junior day's at this point," Winget stated. "Texas A&M, Mississippi State and ULL are the ones I have invitations to right now. I missed both LSU junior day's but I plan on attending one of their camps this summer."

Preston will get a chance to visit College Station, Starkville and Lafayette this spring; he does have some familiarity with the Ragin' Cajuns.

"Greg Siener is a very good friend of mine and he loves it in Lafayette," Preston mentioned. "We've talked about some of the things going on at ULL and the support they have on Saturday's at Cajun Field. Some of the interest I have in ULL is because of the conversations I've had with Greg about playing for the Ragin'Cajuns."

Winget mentioned that he has not set any summer camp dates as of yet, but will looking at a number of schools before narrowing his list down.

"I haven't scheduled any summer camps yet, I'm going to wait until I go through junior days first," Winget stated. "Right now I have interest from ULL, Tulane, Purdue, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and a few others. I'm going to narrow my list down some as I make decisions on which summer camps I will attend after spring."

Preston Winget has not taken his ACT yet, but plans on taking it several times this year.
