Martin Talks Cajuns

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats made the first round of the 2011 Mississippi playoffs last year and look to repeat a playoff appearance again this year. They were a well rounded squad, but one player that jumps out at you is WR/DB Germie Martin (6'1" 175lbs). Martin recently attended the Ragin' Cajuns camp and he shares his experience.

Germie Martin managed to put up impressive numbers on both sides of the ball, 953 yards on 46 receptions and 17 touchdowns on offense, and 100 total tackles with 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and one fumble recovery on defense.

"It went pretty good, I really enjoyed it. I really liked the coaches. They really got in tune with us and corrected us when we messed up. I like the fact that when we messed up they corrected us. None of the other coaches at the other camps I've been to have done that. I thought the indoor facility was really nice. It was my first time being inside an indoor field like that. I told my mom I could get used to not having to practice in the rain. Coach Johnson was happy to see me. He was talking to me about what he wanted me to run in the 40. He told my that I did really well. We were doing the sideline drills and I was the only one staying in bounds. Coach Johnson and I talk all the time on Facebook. I think they might be close to offering. I'm really hoping so."

Along with the Cajuns, Germie is gaining interest from schools throughout Mississippi and Louisiana. He has attended a couple of camps in the last week and is hoping to get to a few more.

"I'm also hearing from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Northwestern State, Southern Miss, and Tulane. The ones that are getting serious are UL, USM, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. I'm hoping to get an offer from someone because I just want to play. Northwestern wanted me to come today, but I couldn't make it today because my mom was sick. I went to the Mississippi State camp Monday. I ran a 4.48 40 and Coach Mirando seemed happy to see me. He liked the fact that I was bigger than most of the corners."

Martin has stayed busy this summer and is looking to make another run in the playoffs this season. The Bobcats know they are coming back with a roster full of playmakers, but they have to remain focused.

"I've been working out, running, and me and my quarterback go throw for a couple of hours after our practices. We are really trying to win state this year and coach has been pushing us. We have the ability and the athletes to win. If we don't it's on us. I'm trying to get to as many camps as I can just so I can learn and get better."

Germie has a very good idea what he wants to peruse as a major. This past year, he had a solid year in the classroom and plans on taking his ACT again. He is wanting to have the opportunity to discuss his education with the staffs recruiting him and hopes to get a chance to do so real soon.

"I've taken my ACT once and am taking it again in August. I got my final grades and had all As and Bs last year. When I go to take Senior portraits I plan on getting my GPA. I want to major in forensics, but I've also looked at nursing. I want to go to a school that has forensics, but I have not really got a chance to talk about majors yet. I need to sit down and talk to Coach Johnson about what they have to offer."
