Andrews Gives Louisiana Verbal

Farmerville High (La)DL DeQuin Andrews raised a few eyebrows during spring football as a playmaker on the defensive side of the football. The (6'3,268) 2011 All-District athlete's performance at UL's Senior Camp was good enough to garner an offer from the staff. Thursday afternoon, Andrews made the decision to give the Ragin' Cajuns and Coach Hudspeth his verbal commitment.
Coach Marquase Lovings has done an excellent job of recruiting talent out of north Louisiana for the Ragin’ Cajun football program. His relationship with Farmerville High (La) defensive lineman
DeQuin Andrews
was key in getting the big athlete to commit to the Cajun program early.
“Coach Lovings is great, when I told him that I was committing he was like “that’s great!”, Dequin said. “He was really excited and he had me laughing on the phone at him. I told Coach Hudspeth and he was pretty excited about it too. I just decided that I wanted to commit at this time and focus on my senior season.”
Andrews had traveled down to Lafayette in June 9th for the UL Senior Prospect Camp and his performance there helped seal an early offer from the Ragin’ Cajuns.
“Coach Lovings had asked me to come down for the camp and I just wanted to show them what I could do,” Andrews stated. “My hamstring was bothering a little bit during the camp, but I pushed through and worked hard in the drills. I thought I had a good camp, but I felt it could have been better had my hamstring not bothered me.”
With his commitment to the Ragin’ Cajuns, what are his plans for the rest of the summer?
“If my hamstring heels, I want to go to a few more camps this summer,” DeQuin mentioned. “Texas A & M asked me to attend one of their camps and I would like to go to
LSU
in July as well. I might go to the
Louisiana Tech
next month as well. I’ve been working out hard since the UL camp, I’ve gained 10 pounds since. I’ve gotten stronger too, finishing my bench on reps at 340-pounds. I’d like to get a few more camps in and then just focus on my senior season.”
DeQuin Andrews is still receiving interest from Louisiana Tech and Texas A & M after his commitment to Louisiana.
