Gadsden High (Ala) OL Khalid Cannon impressed the UL staff enough to garner an offer from head Coach Mark Hudspeth. The (6’5,251) senior left camp impressed with the Ragin’ Cajuns as well and looks forward to staying in contact with Louisiana this fall. The Cajun Redzone caught up with Cannon today and talked to him about his camp experience at UL.
Khalid Cannon
is another lineman with the right frame to project into a solid left tackle prospect. The Gadsden High senior has kept a low profile despite attending over 15 football camps this summer. What kind of experience did Cannon have at Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun prospect camp?
“I really liked the camp, there weren’t a large number of athletes in attendance so there was a lot of teaching going on,” Cannon stated. Before the camp started, Coach Hudspeth took us to look at the facilities and new dorms. Once camp started, I was able to get in some good reps and show Coach Rodrigue what I could do against some of the linemen at the camp.”
After camp a few athletes remained to visit with Coach Hudspeth and their area recruiter; Cannon stayed afterwards to meet with his area Coach Rodrigue and then headed over to the complex.
“Coach Rodrigue and I sat down with Coach Hudspeth in his office and he offered me,” said Khalid. “They offered me at left tackle and Coach Hudspeth told me they are only going to sign three tackles in this class. Coach Rodrigue said he was going to keep recruiting me and come down and watch me play this season.”
With his new offer in hand, Cannon now holds offer from UL,
Troy
, Samford and Yale with interest from
Ole Miss
,
Vanderbilt
and
Middle Tennessee
. What did he think of Louisiana’s facilities?
“I like the indoor practice field, the stadium and the facilities in general,” Cannon mentioned. “They have new dorms being built and Coach Hudspeth talked about the improvements in the works for the football stadium. I really didn’t know what to expect, but ULL has some really nice facilities.”
Khalid Cannon reported he scored a 32 on his ACT and a 4.0 GPA.
