Lewis Amongst UL Visits

With a number of high school football games rescheduled for this past weekend because of hurricane Isaac, the UL recruit visit list wasn't long. The group of about 20 athletes consisted of both juniors and seniors including one of the top local athletes in the 2014 class.

With a number for high schools games in Louisiana and Mississippi rescheduled because of hurricane Isaac, the Cajuns entertained a smaller group of football prospects this Saturday for the Lamar game. One of those visitors NISH (New Iberia Senior High) corner Daniel Lewis is considered one of the area's top athletes in the 2014 class. Lewis talked about his visit to UL this weekend with the Cajun Redzone.

Daniel Lewis (5-11, 190) has received interest from a number of schools including Texas A & M and LSU, but only one program has recruited him hard early.

"UL is the school that is recruiting me the hardest right now," Lewis stated. I haven't heard much from the others lately, but UL has recruited me hard all along. I wanted to come in and watch them this weekend, so Dre Fusilier and I visited Saturday. We had a chance to walk on the field during warm-ups and watch a couple of guys that play my position #22 (Melvin White) and #2 (Jermarlous Moten).

How did Daniel Lewis enjoy the game atmosphere and what did he think of the Ragin' Cajuns defense?

The game was great," Daniel answered. "I watched the corners in their defense and I was impressed with both of them. At times they were playing zone on one side of the field and playing man at the other corner. We stayed until the end of the game and then we went into the locker room with the team. We had a chance to listen to Coach Hudspeth speak to the team about the game."

"Coach Hudspeth told them that he was happy with their effort and intensity," Daniel recalled. He told them that they played a good game, to enjoy the victory and be ready to get ready to get back to work Sunday. I really enjoyed the game atmosphere and the style of defense they play; I'm going to catch another game later this season."

Lewis intercepted three passes last season, including an 87-yard pick-six.

Lewis stated that he has a 3.1 GPA in honors curriculum and scored a 20 on his first ACT test this summer.
