Former Jasper High and Tyler Junior College MLB Donte’ Rollins (6’0, 235) visited Louisiana this past weekend to watch the Ragin’ Cajuns play the Lamar Cardinals. Rollins is finishing up his degree at Tyler and is looking for the right program to complete his college football career with.

Tyler Junior College MLB Donte’ Rollins was ready to start his college football career coming out of Jasper High Texas his senior year. The All-South East Texas selection had strong interest from Kansas and Kansas State, and interest from Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State his senior year. It looked like he was set to sign with Kansas, but fell short of meeting the NCAA eligibility standards and signed with Tyler Junior College in 2009.

Donte’ Rollins went on to have several very good seasons at Tyler Junior College, including being named to the 2011 SWJCFC All-First Team Defense his sophomore year with 61 tackles, 9 tfl and 5 sacks. He was one course short of graduating Tyler in the spring and is now completing a math to graduate this fall.

What did Donte’ Rollins think of his visit down to Louisiana to watch the Ragin’ Cajuns?

“I really like their program a lot,” Rollins stated. “The like the staff and the game atmosphere with the fans are great! The program is not that far from home and I like the style of defense and the way they attack the opponent’s offense.

As Rollins sat in the stands, he played close attention to the defense and the position he played in junior college.

“I watched the defense and what they were doing during the game,” Donte’ said. “They run to the football really well and gangs tackle on defense. I want to play in a defense like that and I feel my abilities fit in the system they run at Louisiana.”

Linda Rollins, Donte’s mother gave the Ragin’ Cajuns her stamp of approval as she accompanied him on the visit to UL.

“We really enjoyed our visit down to Lafayette,” Mrs. Rollins stated. “The school is close to home and we like what they are doing with their program. I think it’s a good school and if he feels comfortable with them then we hope everything works out.”

Donte’ had the opportunity to go into the locker room with the team after the game and listen to Coach Hudspeth talk to the football team.

“I went into the locker room and listened to coach talk to the team about the game,” Rollins mentioned. “I really like the things he told them and you could see he is a strong coach; the kind of coach I would like to play for at the next level. To be honest, I really would like to play football down there for the Ragin’Cajuns. They talk to me on face book and coach told me they are going to stay on me until after I graduate.”
