The Louisiana Ragin’Cajun football team returns to the practice field in preparation of this week’s opponent Florida International. The Panthers (1-3) fell short of upsetting the 18th-ranked Louisville Cardinal 28-21 Saturday night at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.
UL (2-1) returns back to their regular game week practice schedule after a few days off from last week’s open-date. The Cajun football staff was on the recruiting trail Thursday and Friday nights hitting their assigned areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and the Florida Panhandle. Sunday’s morning staff meetings focused on recruiting and FIU’s performance against Louisville.
The news out of Miami is the questionable status of sophomore quarterback
Jake Medlock
after leaving the game against Louisville with a foot injury. Medlock completed 10 of 16 passes for 116 yards before exciting the game with the injury.
Freshman quarterback E.J. Hillard came off the bench replacing Medlock and was 9-for-10 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Hillard also used his feet scrambling around and extending plays in the passing game.
FIU starting running back
Kedrick Rhodes
also missed the game with a right leg injury, but is expected to be available for the UL game.
With backup running back
Darian Mallary
leaving the game with (concussion-type symptoms) after scoring a touchdown earlier in the game. Redshirt freshman running back Jeremiah Harden ran for a102 yards on 20 carries for the Panthers.
The Panther defense held the Louisville offense to 323 total yards and just 129 yards rushing on 31 attempts.
On the defensive side of the football, All-Sun Belt safety Johnathan Cyprien finished the game with 9 tackles and one interception. DL Faciane Isame recorded 6 tackles in the game, including 2 tackles for loss.
The Cajuns return to the regular game week schedule practice schedule starting tonight, off-Monday, Tuesday at 3:30PM, Wednesday at 3:30PM, Thursday at 3:30PM and Friday walk-through.
