Denton, Tx.-North Texas (3-4, 2-1 SBC) found the winning formula in the second half against Louisiana (4-2,2-1 SBC) running the ball and erasing a 14-point half time deficit to defeat the Ragin' Cajuns 30-23 at Apogee Stadium Tuesday night.
UL quarterback
Terrance Broadway
's passing led the Ragin' Cajuns to 20-6 half-time lead Tuesday night. The Cajuns seem to be well on their way to a third win in the Sun Belt Conference after Broadway broke lose on a 75-yard touchdown run in the first half. But the Cajun's offense couldn't find much success in their first three series of the second half and the
North Texas
running game started to find some success running the ball at the UL defense.
The Cajun defense ranked first in the Sun Belt against the run coming in tonight's game, allowing opponents 107.2 yards a game on the ground. But North Texas stayed patient and continued to pound away at the Cajun defense with the running game in the second half.
North Texas trio of running backs
Brandin Byrd
, Antoinne Jimmerson and
Jeremy Brown
found plenty of room to run up the middle of the Cajun defense and off tackle during the second half. Byrd finished the game with 88-yards on 22 carries, Jimmerson 35-yards on 8 carries and Brown rushed for 62-yards on 9 carries, including the Mean Green's longest run of the night 41-yards.
UNT quarterback Derek Thompson's solid night in the pocket 17 for 28 and 282-yards was aided by a 78-yard touchdown off a screen pass to running back Antoinne Jimmerson.
The North Texas come-back in the second half was also aided by the Mean Green defense that held Louisiana to 144-yards in the second half.
The Cajun's offense got a solid performance from quarterback Terrance Broadway, who passed for 240-yards on 22-of-36 passing and a touchdown on the night.
