Lafayette,La.- Louisiana's struggles continued Tuesday night on the football field as the Arkansas State Red Wolves took control of the game from the first possession and never looked back, whipping the Ragin'Cajuns 50-27 on national television.

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Brian Davis kicked five field goals and Arkansas State rolled up 526 yards of offense in a 50-27 victory over Louisiana on Tuesday night.

The Red Wolves (5-3, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) scored 20 points in the game's first 16 minutes en route to stretching their conference winning streak to seven games and stopping UL's home winning streak at eight games. The Ragin' Cajuns (4-3, 2-2) were plagued by five turnovers.

Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin completed 21 of 31 passes for 269 yards and one touchdown. Rocky Hayes led the Red Wolves in rushing, gaining 86 yards on three carries with one touchdown.

Terrance Broadway was 28 for 39 passing and three touchdowns for Ragin Cajuns, but had three interceptions.

ASU out-rushed UL 257-76 and controlled the pace of the game with a 36:38-23:22 edge in time of possession.

Coach Hudspeth spoke to the press in the post game media press conference about his team's struggles the last two weeks.

"Even though we didn’t play well tonight, the team played hard and gave a good effort. When the team continues to give good effort, you always have a chance to improve and move forward. I didn’t think we put our guys in great positions to be successful and we have to do a better job defensively. We made poor adjustments and I expressed over and over we have to stop the edge. I am going to personally make those adjustments. Offensively, we started out a little slow, then when you get behind, you feel like you have to start pressing and then you get out of your offensive game plan. We did come back in the second half and get a quick score to cut the lead. In the first four games we were 12th in the nation in turnover ratio and in the last two games we’ve had 7 turnovers and haven’t forced a single one. We need to take care of the football. We had some young guys step up and make some good plays but we would have liked to stick with our game plan if we would have played well defensively. If you play great defense, you can be in every game so I am going to make sure that gets fixed quickly. We have faced a little bit of adversity, but that is life. We have to get some momentum and confidence back. We can still have a better season than we had last season. We’ve only lost three games and we lost four last year. Our goal is to win every game."
