The Bayou Boys rally from an early deficit in Game 2 of the UL Baseball Fall World Series and to a 4-2 win over the Swampers. With the win, the Bayou Boys squad take the Omaha Cup in the Fall Series.
The Bayou Boys had a new hero in today's game in Seminole State College transfer LHP/OF Ryan Wilson. The Owasso, Oklahoma junior drove in two RBI in the four-run fourth and would later close out the game on the mound with back-to-back strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh inning for the save.
With the win, the Bayou Boys add another 100 points to their total in the Omaha Cup race, ncreasing their lead to an insurmountable 1,500-1,150 with only one game remaining in the Fall World Series (Game 3 worth 150 points).
Freshman Brenn Conrad, who picked up a triple in Game 1 on Tuesday, delivered a two-run double in the fourth inning to break the tie created by a two-run single from Wilson earlier in the frame and complete the Bayou Boys’ comeback.
Relivers Taylor Veillon,
Kendall Mayer
, and ultimately Wilson, combined to post zeros and limit the Swampers to two hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.
Ryan Leonards and Mike Strentz posted a game-high two hits in leading a seven-hit attack by the Swampers. Following a 2-for-2 showing in the opener, Carriere went 1-for-2 in Game 2.
The 3 2/3 innings scoreless relief effort tossed by Taylor Veillon, Kendall Mayer and Ryan Wilson upped the Bayou Boys bullpen’s scoreless innings in the series to 6 2/3 innings. Five different players – Brenn Conrad, Jace Conrad, Tyler Girouard, Blake Trahan and Ryan Wilson – have all collected two hits apiece combining for 10 of the Bayou Boys’ 13 hits in the series.
The Bayou Boys and Swampers will play Game 3 of the Fall World Series beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field. The game marks the final opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate players in “game situations” before fall practice comes to a close on Saturday.
