Top-seeded Neville (9-0) and five-star defensive back Laurence Jones are going for a third state…
Godchaux taking it slow
With his high school season winding down, Plaquemine High School standout Davon Godchaux is taking some time away from the recruiting scene to focus on the high school playoffs.
Even though the 6-4, 245-pound Class of 2014 defensive line prospect has taken a step back from his recruitment, it hasn't stopped college coaches from reaching out to Godchaux. However, Plaquemine's first-round matchup against Breaux Bridge has Godchaux more excited than anything else.
"The recruiting process has been going real well," said Godchaux. "I've been getting a lot of contact from a lot of different schools, a lot of mail and things like that. I have put my recruiting on the backburner, and I'm just trying to finish up my high school season. We play Breaux Bridge at home for the first round of the playoffs this week and I'm looking forward to that."
Godchaux may have put his recruiting process on hold, but the three-star recruit, ranked by Scout as the No. 18 defensive end in America in 2014, did have a chance to visit LSU and take in the Alabama game last weekend. Godchaux said it was the craziest atmosphere he has witnessed in college football so far.
"It was good," said Godchaux, of his recent LSU visit. "It went like you would expect it to go. The stadium and the crowd were amazing and the crowd really got into the game. I liked that and it was crazy. It was just pretty much the same thing as most of the visits I have taken there except it was for the Alabama game so it was a lot crazier. Probably the craziest it has been."
When he was on campus, Godchaux got the chance to interact with a couple of members of the coaching staff. Godchaux also received his invite to the first LSU junior day of the year, which is when he expects to receive his offer from the Tigers.
"I talked to Frank Wilson and Corey Raymond on the visit and they invited me to their Junior Day in January, so I'm going to attend that," explained Godchaux. "I think I will get my offer when I go to that. I will probably sit back and wait if I get it. LSU is my home school, but I want to just see what else is out there and experience the process a little bit."
Godchaux also got a chance to spend some time with one of LSU's biggest remaining targets for the Class of 2013, in addition to taking in perhaps the greatest atmosphere in college football.
"I talked to Kendell Beckwith a lot during the visit," said Godchaux. "I met him at a couple of camps during the summer. I always ask him where he is going to go, and he just tells me that he is just enjoying life and the process right now, and he will make his decision when he feels the time is right."
While he does not yet claim a favorite, Godchaux does have an idea of what schools are at the top of his list as well as which ones are after him the hardest.
"LSU, Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, and Florida State are at the top of my list," said Godchaux. "All of them have been recruiting me pretty hard. I have been hearing a lot from Georgia and Georgia Tech, and Texas A&M has been sending a lot of mail too."
Godchaux says that he plans to take a few more visits this fall to check out some schools, and Tiger fans should expect to see him back on campus very soon.
