The Cajuns(40-14, 23-7 SBC)lost the final game 9-3 to the Privateers in the series against UNO. UL enters the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No.1 seed and will take on the No. 8-seed and host team South Alabama at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
T.J. Baxter went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and Drew Anderson and Joey Butler had two hits each as the Privateers (33-23, 16-14 Sun Belt Conference) avoided a sweep at the hands of the Sun Belt regular season champs.
UNO put up three runs in the first inning off UL starter Buddy Glass (7-3) thanks to four straight hits in the bottom of the first.
Nolan Gisclair hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning to pull the Cajuns to within one of the hosts. The homerun was Gisclair’s 11th of the season and 10th in Sun Belt play. Gisclair also added a single for his 20th multi-hit game of the season.
After Louisiana scored two runs in the third, the Privateers then got a run in their half of the third and broke it open with four runs in the fourth – keyed by a two-run Butler single.
Offensively, the Cajuns collected 11 hits on the afternoon, including a homerun. Nine different UL players collected hits in the game with two batters collecting multiple hits on the day.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will now head to Mobile, Ala. for the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Cajuns will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament as they clinched the regular season title a week ago against Arkansas-Little Rock. UL will play the No. 8 seed and tournament host South Alabama at 7:30 p.m.
