Sun Belt Baseball Names All-Conference Teams

Tony Robicheaux was named Sun Belt Coach Of The Year after leading Cajuns to the regular season Sun Belt Championship and a (40-14, 23-7 SBC) record.

Sun Belt Names All-Conference Baseball Team and Individual Award Winners

MOBILE, Ala. – The Sun Belt’s best were honored on Tuesday night as the league’s 2007 All-Sun Belt Baseball Team was announced at a banquet prior to the Conference Baseball Championship at the University of South Alabama.

Highlighting the 2007 All-Conference team is Florida Atlantic’s Robbie Widlansky who was named the league’s Player of the Year. The junior leads the conference in batting average, hits, runs batted in, doubles, and total bases. His batting average has not dipped under .400 the entire season and his .433 average ranks him tenth nationally.

Also receiving high honors from the conference is Troy’s Josh Dew, the Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year has been named the 2007 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year. Dew, who also plays first base and hits cleanup, leads the Sun Belt in ERA and is tops nationally in strikeouts per nine innings. The senior hurls out an amazing 13.9 strikeouts per nine inning average.

Louisiana-Lafayette Head Coach Tony Robichaux led the Cajuns to a Sun Belt regular season championship this year and for his efforts he was named the Ron Maestri Coach of the Year. This marks the third time that Robichaux has won the award – the last coming in 2005.

ULL’s Nolan Gisclair and Western Kentucky University’s Bart Carter also received individual awards as they were respectively named Newcomer and Freshman of the Year.

The Sun Belt Championship gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and runs through Saturday. All games will be played at Stanky Field on USA’s campus and will be webcast live on the Sun Belt’s website –
