The offense showed during the first few series that the running game will still be the staple of the Cajun offense, leading off the scrimmage rushing 10 times for 49 yards. But the offense was cloppy at times during the day, committing 9 penalties, allowing five sacks and a pair of interceptions. The Cajuns top three quarterbacks combined for 14-of-32 passing, for just 81 yards. Hardly the balance the offensive staff is looking for out of the offense. Offensive bright spots included running backs Tyrell Fenroy and Deon Wallace, who combined for 31 carries and 145 yards. Fenroy added a four-yard and a nine-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Conner Morel tossed the lone touchdown pass; a nine-yard throw to Richie Falgout. The defense controlled the scrimmage at times, forcing a stop or turnover in 15 of the 23 series. The defense was lead by interceptions from linebacker Brent Burkhalter and safety Grant Fleming; and the sacks from Terrell Richardson,Rodney Hardeway and Kory Raymond. The defense showed better overall then last Saturday's scrimage, with exception of the redzone. The eight times the offense scored a touchdown or attempted a field goal was when the ball was spotted in the red zone to start the series. The Cajuns take Monday off from practice and return to the field to prepare for the falls final scrimmage Wednesday. |
