| Cajun Defensive Tackle Position Preview | ||||
![]() |
The tackle position on the Cajun defense isn’t very big or physical, but in the new defense quickness is more important. The Cajun Red Zone takes a look at the athletes that will contribute on the depth chart at the defensive tackle position for the 2007 season. | |||

Projected Starters: Corey Raymond and LaQuincy Williams
Corey Raymond 6-4, 290 Senior- Raymond is the Cajuns most talented defensive tackle, starting six games in 2006 and leading the DT position with 35 tackles. Raymond has worked on his quickness during the off season, dropping 10 pounds over the summer. The Cajun’s defense needs a big year from Raymond to be successful in 2007.
LaQuincy Williams 6-2, 283 Sophomore- Williams made strides as a freshman last season playing all 12 games. He totaled 2.5 sacks and nine tackles during the 2006 season. Williams will play the quick tackle position and give the Cajuns some pass rush up the middle. LaQuincy needs to improve his play against the run for the interior defense to improve in 2007.
Seth Adams 6-4, 290 Junior- Adams played his first year during 2006, after sitting out 2005 to get academically eligible. He appeared in five games last season, but suffered through the usual growing pains from sitting out of football for a year. Adams has worked very hard to drop his weight down to 290 pounds this fall. His lower weight will give him more endurance during the 2007 season and help him stay on the field for longer stretches during the game.
Jermaine Rogers 6-4, 265 Freshman- Rogers enrolled in the spring after sitting the 2006 football season and originally signing with UAB out of high school. Rogers showed promise during the spring, before injuring his knee. The injury has slowed his development some, but the staff moved him inside this fall and he has played well in the Cajuns scrimmages. Rogers is a talented and athletics tackle, that will contribute in the rotation for the 2007 season. Lanier Coleman 6-3, 322 Senior- Coleman was originally moved from the defensive line for two years and now he has been moved back for the 2007 season to give the DT position depth. Coleman is a big strong mauler, but he is not very instinctive at the defensive tackle position. He can plug a gap in some sets and will help in the goal line defense as well.
Sharrick Moore 6-2, 263 Freshman RS- Moore red-shirted during the 2006 season, but looks to add depth on the interior line. Moore is more of a quick tackle, then gap filler. At this time, he is not strong enough to give the Cajun defense more then a few snaps during a game. He will add depth to the position in case of injuries during the 2007 season. Colin Windsor 6-5, 270 Freshman RS- Windsor was moved from DE, to DT during the spring to add depth. Windsor has showed enough promise during the spring and fall; he will get some reps during the season. He has the type of frame to add weight and get stronger. Windsor plays a little tall at times, but holds his own in the middle in certain defenses.
Blake Ramsey 6-3, 285 Sophomore- Cajun fans have waited for Ramsey to get academically eligible for a year now. Ramsey was highly touted coming out of high school and gives the Cajuns good size and strength at the tackle position. Blake has been hurt sitting out a year away from competitive football, but you can see the potential at times during practice and scrimmage. His reps will depend of the performance and health of several athletes ahead of him on the depth chart. |
