Kicker is looking for an opportunity

With the new rule in place for college football kick-offs, programs are now looking for high school kickers that can put the ball in the endzone. Mandeville High has one of the best kept secrets in Louisiana, in place kicker Colin Conn.

“Maybe once,” boasted an elated Mandeville High School booster, “against Slidell one of Colin Conn’s kickoffs dropped around the two or three yard line. Other than that, they all go for touchbacks.”

Conn, a 6 foot 2 senior “Iron-Man” for the Skippers in Mandeville, has a big league leg, handling all field goals and extra points as well as all of the punting. He is also Mandeville’s leader in receiving yards with 250, and touchdowns, with three. Conn also plays a bit of defensive back.

“He’s a sleeper,” said Ann Conn of her son. “He attended LSU’s football camp as a receiver and was a top five performer. He never really played in high school until the 4th game of his junior season.

Colin Conn, when asked if he knew collegiate kickoffs had been pushed back 5 yards smiled and said, “I can kick anything. A soccer ball, a football, it doesn’t matter where it is… I’ll kick it.”

According to his mother, Colin is retaking his ACT but already has a 20 and is an excellent student. “And he runs a 4.4 40!” she added.

Conn has been contacted by Tulane, and is interested in playing at Louisiana.

“It would be great to go to school in Lafayette,” says Conn. “I think it would be great to play football there.”

As a sophomore Conn was an All-State performer in soccer, scoring over 40 goals. He now is focusing on football.

“I just love being on the field… Playing,” he says.
