Part of the problem with playing on Destrehan's state championship team is, sharing the spotlight with other great athletes like wide receiver Tim Molton and quarterback Jordan Jefferson
. But the 5-9, 165-pound Johnson, with 4.4 speed hasn't been overshadowed by the two other stars on the team. Johnson completed his senior season with 77 receptions, 1169 yards receiving and 14 tds. Johnson also scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns and one touchdown on a punt return.
"Winning a state championship was great; it's something that you never forget. I have had a few coaches coming by and talking to me about visits. I have one visited scheduled this month at Louisiana Tech
Johnson mentioned the latest in home visits this week.
"Both Louisiana Tech and ULL have visited this week. Coach Rebowe from ULL came by Tuesday and offered me, but I haven't set a visit date yet."
What are the coaches telling you about their programs?
The coaches are all pretty much saying the same things. They're telling me that I would have a good opportunity to play early if I decide to sign with them."
Damaris now has offers from Louisiana, Memphis
State, Southern Miss
, Louisiana Tech and Southern Illinois
. Johnson expects to hear from another program before the end of the week.
"Coach Shannon from Miami
called and told me that he will be coming in to visit. So I look forward to talking to him later this week."
Johnson spoke about the type of offense that he wants to play in at the next level.
"I'm a small receiver, so I want to play in a spread offense that utilizes my speed. I also wouldn't mind being a punt and kick returner as well. I returned kicks and punts this year, so it's something I would be comfortable in doing at the next level."
Academics will not be a question for Johnson as he maintains a 2.8 GPA and has scored an 18 on his ACT.
Damaris Johnson has had a great senior season, being part of a state championship team at Destrehan High School in Louisiana. College coaches have taken notice of Johnson's season and are scheduling in home visits.
