The 20th ranked Lady Cajun Softball team will face a tough field of teams in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

The women’s softball team heads off to the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Thursday. It is a 3 day tournament and the Lady Cajuns enter the tournament undefeated. It kicks off Friday morning at 11:00 am against the North Carolina Tar Heels (12-3). The ladies are scheduled to play Iowa (8-2), Tennessee Tech (5-9), Nebraska (9-7) and the University of Michigan (11-2). They have 2 games on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday morning.

Ashley Brignac, UL’s All Star freshmen pitcher will be the starting pitcher for at least one of the games. She wasn’t sure as of Wednesday which game she was slated to pitch in.

Brignac from John Curtis High School has started in 5 games and was very excited to step up the action this weekend. She said “the girls were very excited and would do whatever it takes to win this tournament”. She also stated “that one thing special about her team was that they all work together to get the job done”.

She has adjusted well from high school to college play and maintains a rigorous schedule of practice six days a week, academics and weight training. Like most UL athletes she is required to attend nightly tutoring sessions to keep her grades up in addition to all of the traveling.

The Lady Cajuns have their work cut out for them this weekend. They are currently ranked #20.
