Cajuns hold first spring scrimmage

The Cajuns held their first scrimmage of the 2008 spring football. The staff orginally scripted 110 plays for Saturday morning's scrimmage, but practice ended a few plays short of plan.

The scrimmage was designed so that each series would be limited to eight plays, regardless of outcome, therefore keeping personnel fresh on each side of the ball.

The first team offense battled the first team defense most of the day, while the second teamers squared off against one another.

The defense was able to collect four interceptions and recover a fumble to disrupt the offense most of the morning.

Highlighting the defensive play was several interceptions from sophomore MLB Fred Davis and senior CB Justin Branden that was returned to the 10 yard line.

Quarterback Michael Desormeaux saw limited action, giving way to redshirt freshmen Chris Masson and Brad McGuire.

Desormeaux and McGuire did have several good plays out of play action. On one of the better series of the day, Desormeaux hit WR Marlin Miller 25 yards down the middle of field in the second half of the scrimmage.

Desormeaux and McGuire combined to complete seven passes of 15 yards or more.

Masson suffered a bruised leg in the second half and did not return, allowing McGuire to see additional reps.
