Defense controlls second scrimmage

Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns second spring scrimmage looked very similar to the first, as the defense controlled most of the game.

The Cajuns defense had an interception, two fumble recoveries and two sacks and didn’t allow the offense to sustain any lengthy drives.

The Cajun offense lost two linemen during the scrimmage as tackle Brad Bryant left in the first half with a knee injury and guard Brad Bustle went down in the second half with a right knee injury.

The offense was most effective with senior Michael Desormeaux at the helm in the first half. Desormeaux directed the offense from the 25-yard line, hitting tightend Erik Jones for a 19 yard gain. Senior Tyrell Fenroy would then take the handoff from Desormeaux for a six-yard touchdown run. On the offenses second series, redshirt freshman Jonathan Thomas would score on a one-yard after a penalty for facemask on the defense.

Michael Desormeaux would play only one series in the second half, as redshirt freshmen Chis Masson and Brad McGuire would take the majority of snaps. Neither young quarterback would accomplish much in the second half aginst the defense.

The defense allowed only one field goal in the second half, stopping five series on downs, collecting a fumble recovery and watching two other field goal attempts sail wide.

The Cajuns will hold three more practices this week, with the Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, March 15th.
