Cajuns Defeat Northwestern State 7-6

Louisiana's Ragin'Cajun baseball team made it four in a row Wednesday night,defeating the Northwestern State Demons in extra-innings 7-6.

Tyler Benzel’s RBI single in the top of the 11th inning scored the game-winning run, whileJustin Robichaux made it stand as the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns(10-12) posted a 7-6 road victory over the Northwestern State Demons(13-10) at Brown-Stroud Field.

Benzel finished the night with a career-high-tying three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Benzel's effort at the plate was aided home runs from Scott Hawkins and Chance Hurst. Scott Hawkins went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the first inning. Chance Harsthit his second home run in two games – a two-run effort in the fifth.

Louisiana, which had just three home runs in the first 13 games of the season, has now homered in nine straight contests.

Freshman Randall Bulliard got the start for the Cajuns going to innings in his first career start,allowing three runs on six hits, with three strikeouts.

Senior Buddy Glass earned his first win of the season on the mound, scattering two hits in two innings of relief. Justin Robichaux retired the side in the 11th inning for his sixth save of the season. In all the Cajuns used six pitchers.

Tommy Rozell got the start for Northwestern Statr on the mound, allowing 4 runs on five hits, and two strike outs in 3.2 innings of work.

Louisiana's Ragin’ Cajuns will return to “The Tigue” for a brief four-game homestand, beginning with a Sun Belt Conference series with FIU this weekend. Friday’s series opener is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
