Ryan McCoy, the two-time NJCAA National Champion, last at Midland Junior College in 2007, will be playing next fall in the Sun Belt Conference after signing a letter-of-intent on Wednesday. McCoy talked to the Cajun RedZone Friday about his future with Louisiana. BJ: Its been a long year for you Ryan, were you excited to finally sign with a Division One program? Ryan: Yes sir, I'm really happy to get back into basketball and sign with a Division One program. BJ: How tough has it been sitting out and watching guys you've played with on television? Ryan: Its been pretty tough watching guys that I'm friends with play. We talk sometimes about the games, but it's not the same as being on the court with some of those guys. BJ: What attracted you to the Cajun program? Ryan: Several coaches knew coach Steadman when he was at North Texas and suggested I give him a call at Louisiana. Once I visited and talked to some of the guys in the program, I knew this is were I wanted to play. BJ: So what did you like about the program that made you sign with Louisiana? Ryan: I think it was meeting some of the guys that I'm going to play with. We have a good group of guys and I like the fact that we have some really good wing players. Also,we have a few big guys coming in as well, so I really liked the mixture in the program. BJ: What do you bring to the program? Ryan: I've been on two national championship teams and we all had roles to play on those teams. I understand the game and that is what I bring to the program. BJ: Has sitting out helped you in any manner? Ryan: I think if anything, its' helped my work effort. Sitting out and working in a full time job makes you think about how I didn't always work as hard as I should have daily. BJ: What are your goals for this season? Ryan: My first priority is to complete my nine course hours and graduate junior college. Once that is out of the way, then winning a Sun Belt Championship and playing in the NCAA Tournament this season. |
