No. 16th ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns completed a pair of mercy-rule shutouts Wednesday and ran their the home record to 19-0 at Lamson Park this season. | |||

After a three hour weather delay Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Cajuns received a pair of masterful pitching performances from the fab two freshmen Donna Bourgeois and Ashley Brignac to sweep North Texas. Game One Donna Bourgeois got things started for the Cajuns in game one. She hurled 6.0 innings en route to her 11th win of the season. She allowed just one walk and one hit while striking out nine batters. Bourgeois recorded her third shutout of the season. Offensively, the Cajuns were led by Vallie Gaspard who finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Karli Hubbard also added a pair of hits. Hubbard finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Vanessa Soto drove in three runs on one hit and her NCAA-leading seventh sacrifice fly. Lana Bowers also drove in three runs with just one hit. Bowers connected on her seventh home run of the season in the third inning to put the Cajuns ahead 3-0, a lead they would not relinquish. Game Two In game two, the other half of the freshmen fab two Ashley Brignac worked 5.0 innings allowing just one hit and one walk. She fanned 13 of the 17 batters she faced in the game, giving the Cajuns their second shutout of the night. Offensively, the Cajuns were led by Vanessa Soto's second three-RBI perfomance of the day. Holly Tankersley drew the intentional walk to load the bases in the fourth before Soto hit a triple to clear the bases. The Cajuns jumped on North Texas early in the first inning,jumping out to a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Soto drew a four-pitch walk to get things started. Lana Bowers hit a screamer through the left side of the infield to give the Cajuns a pair of base runners. Melissa Verde drew a four-pitch free pass of her own to load the bases. A fielding error by the Mean Green continued the inning and plated the first run of the game for UL. With the bases still loaded, Gabriele Bridges drove in a run as she was struck by a pitch. Karli Hubbard drove in the third and final run of the inning as she worked the count in her favor and drew a free pass. Louisiana put the game away in the fourth inning as they scored five runs on four hits. The inning was highlighted by a base-clearing triple down the right field line with the bases loaded by Soto. Bowers added a sacrifice fly in the inning along with a Katie Smith RBI single. |
