The NCAA announced the 64-team field for the 2008 NCAA Regionals and Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns (46-12) are headed to Baton Rouge as the No. 2 seed.

Louisiana State (42-16) is the top seed in the regional, and the NCAA’s No. 9 National Seed. East Carolina (36-28) serves as the No. 3 seed and Mississippi Valley State (25-25) is the No. 4 seed. The Cajuns and Pirates will square off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday in Baton Rouge at Tiger Park.

The NCAA Regional appearance marks the 18th time in school history that the Cajuns have advanced into postseason play. The NCAA berth is also the 10th consecutive appearance for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Louisiana has faced just one of the teams in their bracket during the regular season. The Cajuns squared off with Mississippi Valley State in the 2008 Louisiana Classics Softball Tournament in Lafayette. UL downed the Devilettes 15-0 and 9-0 in mercy-rule fashion back in February.
