The Cajun Football program added another junior college receiver to its list of verbal commitments this morning when Hinds Community College prospect Vernon Wolfe committed to the Cajuns.
Vernon Wolfe
came in on a visit for the
UTEP
game earlier this year and left with an offer from Coach Bustle. The 6-1, 185-pound athlete spoke to the Cajun RedZone on November 10th about his visit and stated that he really enjoyed the visit.
““I really like UL, said Wolfe.” “My roommate and I came in Friday night and we love the Lafayette area. We had a chance to drive around campus and look at the indoor facility, weight room and the locker room; it’s a nice school.”
Apparently the coaching staff made enough of an impression on Wolfe, that after a visit to
ULM
this past weekend, Vernon decided to turn down an official visit to
Arkansas State
and commit to the Cajuns.
“I decided that ULL was the place I want to play football, Vernon said.” “I made my decision last night and called Coach Brown about my decision.”
What did Vernon Wolfe tell Coach Mason when he made the call?
“I told Coach Mason that I wanted to become a Ragin’Cajun, said Wolfe.” “He was pretty excited when I told him that I’m committing to ULL; he was on the road recruiting.”
Wolfe missed four games during the season, but still managed to catch 33 passes for 395 yards and 2 TD in just five games. Did the opportunity to play for Coach Brown as his position coach play a role in Wolfe’s final decision?
“Without a doubt, Vernon said.” “When I came in on the visit, we sat down and watched film together. I had the opportunity to talk to him for a while and he is the type of coach that will push you hard, to get the best performance out of you. I think he will help motivate me and keep me focused on working hard.”
Despite missing four games, Wolfe participated in the 2008 MAC JC All-Star game on December 6th.
“They didn’t throw that ball that much to me, but I did catch a 37-yard pass, said Vernon.” “I also had six crack-back guys during the game as well, so that was fun.”
Vernon Wolfe had offers from
UL
,
ASU
and ULM before committing to the Cajuns. Wolfe was also recruited by
Louisiana Tech
coming out of high school and had interest from
Mississippi State
before the coaching change took place.
