Knighton Has Cajuns On List

As the Dead Period continues for college football recruiting, some news of visits for the Ragin'Cajuns continues to trickle out. The latest prospect to mention the Cajuns is a sleeper DE out of Texas.

Longview High DE prospect Chris Knighton wasn't touted as a major prospect coming into the 2008 football season. The 6-3, 240-pound athlete with 4.7 speed had played on the offensive line during the 2007 season, so Chris really didn't show up on many preseason college football recruiting sites. Now that the 2008 season is over, Knighton has now garnered all district honors, honorable mention all-state honors and the attention of a few very good football programs.

"I'm scheduling out my visits to Kansas, TCU, Baylor and ULL, said Knighton." "I've already visited UTEP earlier this year, so those are the four I'm trying to schedule out."

Knighton finished the 2008 season with 16 sacks and 15 tackles for loss; and Longview High ended the season with a lost in the Texas 4A Championship game against nationally ranked Lake Travis High.

"Yea, Lake Travis beat us 48-23, said Chris." "I played with a broken toe during the game and I still finished with 2 sacks. It was a tough game; we lost our best offensive player Tyler McCray in the first quarter."

What does Chris know about Louisiana's Ragin'Cajun Football program?

"I've been down there to Lafayette, but I didn't have time to look at the campus or facilities, Knighton said." "We have several coaches on our staff at Longview that spoke to me about the program and they had some good things to say."

What did the coaches from Louisiana tell you about coming in and visiting?

"Coach Mason told that they really liked me and wanted me to come in and visit, said Chris." "He told me I would have an opportunity to compete and play early in their program."

Does Knighton know which program he will visit first?

"I'm trying to reschedule some visits, but I don't know which school I will visit first, Chris said." "I've lost some of the coaches' numbers because I had problems with my phone; I should know more on the visit dates by then end of the week.

Chris Knighton has scored an 19 on the ACT and currently maintains a 3.3 GPA in his core.
