Cajuns Add Junior College Lineman

The Cajun football staff continues to add help on the defensive line for the 2009 signing class. The newest addition to the early signing Jordan Topp, committed Sunday evening to the staff.

"I committed to the Ragin'Cajuns this afternoon, Jordan said." "I really was looking for something different in a football program and I enjoyed the time I spent there this weekend. I wanted to go somewhere that is different then San Diego and Lafayette is really a nice college town."

Besides the college atmosphere, several other factors helped Topp make his final decision.

"Without a doubt, the core group of players and coaches helped make the decision easier, Topp said." "The players really made me feel at home on my visit and the staff has been straight with me from their first contact."

Topp had plenty of interest in the spring, but as the fall football season started some of the programs stopped contacting him.

"I had interest from Arizona State, Arizona, Oregon State and Utah in the spring, said Jordan." "I had redshirted my first season, so after the 2007 season most of those schools were interested in me if I graduated in the spring. After I didn't graduate, most of them stop calling. They wanted me to come in the spring and have three years left to play."

In 2007, Topp had a solid freshman campaign for the Olympians posting 48 tackles, seven sacks and two forced fumbles while being named Second Team All-Conference and his team's Defensive MVP. In the 2008, the 6-4, 280-pound lineman finished with 47 Tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 2 Int. and 4 pass break ups. Topps was named First Team All-Conference and his team's Defensive MVP for a consecutive year.

At 280-pounds, Jordan Topp has been able to keep his athleticism to play at DE and DT. In 2007, he intercepted a pass and ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown. He can run really well.

"I ran a 4.85 forty this football season after gaining a little weight, Topp said." "I can play inside and on the edge in the Cajuns system. It's that versatility that the coaching staff liked."

Topp will have to return to Lafayette and enroll this week for the spring semester.

"I plan on being in Lafayette Tuesday, Jordan said." "I have some things to take care of before I leave, but I'm excited about heading down to UL." Recommended Stories
