Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns are putting the finishing touches on the 2009 Signing Class. The Cajuns received a commitment from Scout.Com nationally ranked running back Robert Walker of Mamou High School.
All-State RB
Robert Walker
cast his commitment with the Cajuns Saturday night, after visiting McNeese State last weekend.
“UL and McNeese State were my top two on the list schools that offered, Walker said.” “I had offers from UL, McNeese State,
North Carolina
, North Western State and Southeastern Louisiana.
Tulane
wanted me to visit as well, but I didn’t schedule one. It really was down to UL and McNeese St. in the end.
Walker visited McNeese State last week, but left without committing to the Cowboys.
“I wasn’t ready to commit yet and I wanted to take my visit to UL, said Robert.” “When I came in to visit, my intentions were to take another visit next weekend.”
So why did Robert Walker change his mind and pick the Cajuns over McNeese St.?
“The bottom line was the way people treated me on my visit at UL, Walker said.” “Everybody would shake your hand and just made me feel welcomed. My host
Daylon McCoy
really talked about the positive things in the program and was a part of the reason I decided to commit to the Cajuns.”
The 5-7, 183-pound Walker carried 236 times for 1,856 yards (7.9 average) and 24 touchdowns in 2007 as a Class 2A All-State pick his junior year. Robert followed up the 2007 season with 2,012 yards and 27 touchdowns this year, and another Class 2A All-State Selection. Did the coaches talk about how Robert will fit into the offense for 2009?
“We broke down into groups and watched film, Walker said.” “I’m going to play running back and work out of the slot in the spread offense. But they see me as a running back in their offense.”
“Are there any plans now to take another visit for Robert Walker?
“No, I’m done now and I’m happy it’s over, said Robert.” “My family is happy with the decision and I’m ready to focus on the rest of my senior year.”
What are Robert Walker’s plans now that he is committed?
“After I graduate, I’m going to enroll in summer school, Walker said.” “I want to get started in some of my courses and start summer workouts with the rest of the team.”
