The Cajuns Set Two More Visits

The Cajuns are entertaining a small group of athletes this week and hope to close the 2009 class strong with several commitments over the weekend.

The Cajuns will entertain All-State WR Javone Lawson from Helen Cox, All-State LB Jewell Ratliff from McDonogh #35 and TE Jacob Maxwell from Pearl River High this weekend. The Cajun RedZone interviewed Jewell Ratliff yesterday and caught up with Lawson and Maxwell last night.

Javone Lawson comes in this weekend as the most highly touted of this small group. The 6-0,180-pound Lawson finished 2008 as the New Orleans metro area's leading receiver with 59 receptions for 897 yards and 16 touchdowns. Lawson is also an explosive return specialist and was named 2008 First Team 4A All-State kick returner. The all-state athlete had an early offer from Tulane and took a visit out to Ole Miss in November, but returned without an offer.

"They told me that they were filled and didn't have anything, said Lawson." "I heard from them several times after, but nothing really happened with them."

Lawson's previous score of 16 on the ACT had limited his visit opportunities until recently.

"I think there were few that backed off after I received my first score, Javone said." "But I'm waiting on my recent score and, ULL, Tech and several others have called for me to come in on a visit. So I decided to come to Lafayette this weekend and take a look at the program."

Why did Lawson decide to come in to UL on an official visit?

"Coach Rebowe visited me in home and offered, Lawson said." "I'm going up there to make my final decision, but I'm pretty sure that I will take the offer and commit."

More on Lawson, his visit to the Swamp and his decision this weekend.

The 6-4, 210-pound Jacob Maxwell caught 19 passes for 306 yards and 5 TDs, and logged 47 tackles and picked off 4 passes his junior season. While playing in a run oriented offense in 2008, Jacob caught 5 passes for 176 yards and 2 TDs during a three game stretch in November.

"We had a really good RB in Joe Gilliam and the offense was more run oriented, Jacob said." "I played down more on the line my junior year and this year I played out in the slot or wide receiver position."

Maxwell has a 21 on the ACT and holds several offers right now.

"I have offers from UL and Southeastern, said Maxwell." "I took a visit to Southeastern two weeks back and I'm headed to Lafayette this weekend. I've never visited, so this will be my first trip to the campus."

Maxwell is a pretty good basketball player as well, scoring the 1,000 pt in his high school career in November. Jacob will have to make a decision this weekend on his final college destination.

"I expect both programs will want my decision by Sunday, Jacob said." "After I get a look at the program and the facilities, I will make a decision with my parents."
