Louisiana Announces 2009 Recruiting Class

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns finalized their 2009 recruiting class on Wednesday, signing 14 high school and four junior college prospects.

The Cajuns stayed in-state for half the 2009 recruiting class, including two local athletes from the Acadiana area. Bustle and staff also picked up recruits from Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and California.

Justin Anderson, 6-3, 240 DE Foley High, Alabama
*Garnered All-County, All-Region and All-State honors as a senior.
*Selected to play in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game.
*Amassed 80 tackles as a senior leading Foley to the Class 6-A playoffs.
*Boasts speeds near 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash, playing both linebacker and defensive end.
*Recorded 16 sacks as a junior.

Winston Burnette, 6-2, 195 DB Woodlawn High, Baton Rouge
*Played in the U.S. Army Redstick All-Star Game.
*Made 85 tackles in just eight games as a senior to earn second team All-District 4-5A honors.
*Played mostly safety during his senior season, but has seen time at outside linebacker and cornerback.
*Was a three-year letter winner in football and two-year letter winner in track, running the 200 & 400 meters.

Tyrell Gaddies, 6-3, 270 DT Coffeyville (Kan.) CC
*Enrolled in class for the spring 2009 semester.
*Has three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting at Coffeyville in 2007.
*Had 36 tackles, 4.5 sacks and two pass break-ups in redshirt freshman season of 2008.
*Ranked ninth in the KJCCC in sacks in league play and also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
*Originally from New Orleans, playing tight end at Kennedy HS as a sophomore.
*Relocated to Houston for junior and senior season following Hurricane Katrina.
*Featured in stories with his twin brother Jyrell by the NY Times (Published by Lee Jenkins, Sept. 10, 2005) and MSNBC (by Ron Allen, Sept. 19, 2005) .
*Was a state finalist in high school in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Andrew Hebert, 6-2, 205 Ath. Teurlings High, Lafayette
*Excelled at multiple positions as a four-year starter
*Played defensive end as a freshman before playing tight end as a sophomore. Had 58 receptions for 930 yards and eight scores to earn first team Class 3A All-State honors that season.
*Moved to running back as a junior and had 140 rushes for 845 yards and 10 touchdowns and 36 catches for 530 yards and seven touchdowns.
*Remained at running back for senior season, but also saw time at strong safety. Had 166 carries for 1,113 yards and 12 scores, adding 18 catches for 173 yards.

Andrew Joseph, 5-9, 170 WR Coffeyville (Kan.) CC
*Enrolled in class for the spring 2009 semester.
*Has three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting at Coffeyville in 2007.
*Made 35 catches for 597 yards and four touchdowns during redshirt freshman season.
*Second in the conference in receiving yards and yards per catch and third in receiving yards per game (66.3).
*In seven league games, he led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in receiving yards (490) receiving yards per game (70.0) and yards per catch.
*Earned first team All-State 1-An honors as a senior in high school. Helped Glades Day School win the state title, leading the team with 35 receptions for 776 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Javone Lawson, 6-1, 175 WR Helen Cox High, Harvey, La.
*Earned first team All-Metro New Orleans and All-State Class 8-4A honors as a senior.
*Was a two-time All-District selection.
*Led the greater New Orleans area with 71 receptions for 821 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior.
*Scored two touchdowns on returns during his senior season.
*Lettered in football for three seasons and basketball for one season, winning a basketball state championship

Daniel Lemelle, 6-3, 265 OL Beaumont, TX
*Earned first team All-District 22-4A honors as a senior.
*Named to All-Golden Triangle team.
*Played guard and tackle in high school, but could also see time at center at the collegiate level.
*Rated a Top-100 guard by Scout.com.
*Lettered in football, wrestling and power lifting, made three straight regional appearances in power lifting.

Jacob Maxwell, 6-4, 220 TE Pearl Rive,La
*Was a very good run-blocking tight end as a junior, producing a 1,000-yard first-team all-state running back.
*Made 19 receptions for 306 yards and five touchdowns during junior season.
*Had 27 career receptions for 640 yards and 12 touchdowns.
*Averaged 35.2 yards per catch during senior season and was also a punter.
*Multi-sport athlete earned four letters in football and basketball and three letters in track.
*Posted 1,286 points, 812 rebounds and 129 blocks in his prep basketball career.
*Was a three-time All-District selection in football (twice in 2008 – WR & P) and a three-time all-district selection in basketball.

Brandon McCray, 6-4, 290 DT Merritt Island, FL
*Had 40 tackles and 3.5 sacks during senior season.
*Named second team All-Space Coast Conference by Florida Today
*Played in the Central Florida all-star game
*Was a two-year letter winner in football, also lettered in wrestling and track.

Brandon Nash, 5-11, 220 LB Redemptorist High, Baton Rouge
*Played in the U.S. Army Redstick All-Star Game.
*Was a two-time 6-3A All-District athlete and honorable mention All-State as a senior.
*Registered 136 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, six sacks and four fumbles recoveries as a senior
. *Posted 108 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 interception and 2 blocked kicks as a junior en route to being named defensive MVP of his team.
*Helped lead Redemptorist Wolves to the Class 3A semifinals for two straight years.
*Awarded four letters in football and track and one in basketball and wrestling.

Jewell Ratliff, 6-1, 230 LB McDonogh 35 High, New Orleans
*Was a two-time All-District and All-State Class 4A selection.
*Finished senior year with 87 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles and five interceptions while recording 70 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, six sacks, five forced fumbles and three picks as a junior.
*Played in the Pontchartrain All-Star Classic.
*Was a prep teammate of Cajuns defensive lineman Derreck Dean.
*Lettered in both football and basketball.

Robert Robinson, 6-4, 255 OL Atlantic High, Delray Beach, FL
*Anchored the offensive line at left tackle, helping Atlantic (11-1) win the District 14-5A title as a senior.
*Selected to play in the Outback Steakhouse All-Star game in Florida.
*Rated the 23rd best Palm Beach County prospect by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, having played guard and tackle on both sides of the line.

Ian Thompson, 6-4, 210 TE , East Forsyth High, North Carolina
*Had 49 receptions for 723 yards and 10 touchdowns during senior season.
*Earned first team All-Conference and All-County honors, playing both wide receiver and tight end.
*Helped East Forsyth to a 12-2 record, advancing to the Class 4-AA state quarterfinals.
*Had 90 career receptions for 1,333 yards and 16 touchdowns.
*Was a three-year letter winner in football and a two-year letter winner in basketball.

*Enrolled in class for the spring 2009 semester.
*Named first team All-Conference and garnered All-State recognition in leading Mesa to the Mountain Conference Co-Championship during sophomore campaign.
*Had 47 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks, four pass-break-ups and two interceptions as a sophomore.
*Earned second team All-Mountain Conference honors as a freshman. *Clocked a 4.85 time in the 40-yard dash.
*Was a first team All-Conference selection as a senior in high school.
*Named the North team's MVP in the Alex Spanos All-Star Classic.

Ashton Tyler, 6-6, 275 OL, L.W. Higgins, Marrero
*Was the first commitment of the class.
*Is big, but athletic, with a wingspan of nearly 6-10.
*Named All-District 7-5A and All-West bank.
*Was a two-year starter and three-year letter winner on the offensive line.
*Team won the district championship and made the state playoffs each season.

Robert Walker, 5-7, 173 RB, Mamou High, Louisiana
*Earned Class 2A All-State honors as a junior and senior.
*Was a first team All-District, All-Parish and All-Acadiana selection.
*Ran for 2,041 yards and scored 27 touchdowns during senior season.
*Rushed for a single-game total of 456 yards vs. Pine Prairie.
*Had 1,856 rushing yards and 24 scores as a junior.
*Rated a Top 50 running back by Rivals.com
*Boasts 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash.
*Lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track at Mamou High.

Melvin White, 6-3, 180 DB, Brazosport, Texas
Switched from wide receiver to quarterback prior to senior season...Named District 23-4A and Brazoria County Offensive MVP as a senior...Was a second team All-District selection as a junior...Track standout (long jump – 22-8, triple jump – 44-0)...Had 128 carries for 783 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry...Completed 85 of 165 pass attempts (51.5-percent) for 999 yards...Named Greater Houston Top-100.

Vernon Wolfe, 6-0, 180 WR, Hinds Miss, CC
*Enrolled in class for the spring 2009 semester.
*Played baseball and football at Hinds CC.
*Made 24 receptions for 268 yards and two scores as a freshman.
*Had 33 catches for 392 yards and two scores in five games during sophomore season.
*Led the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Athletic Association in receptions per game (6.6) and was second in receiving yards per game (79.0).
*Was named second team all-league in the South Division as a sophomore and was invited to the conference's annual all-star game
