Louisiana's La'Ryan Gary came off the bench and led the Cajuns in scoring with a career-high 20 points. The win was Louisiana’s 12th straight over New Orleans in the CAJUNDOME.
Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns stormed out of the locker room on a 14-4 run to start the second half and then an eight-point surge late in the half put
New Orleans
away in a key 76-60 victory here Sunday evening at the CAJUNDOME.
The initial surge pulled
Louisiana (10-17, 7-9 Sun Belt)
out of a 29-28 halftime deficit and into a 42-33 lead only 4:40 into the second half.
A pair of free throws by Jahmal Burroughs with 7:11 remaining pulled
UNO (11-17, 6-11 Sun Belt)
within five points at 52-47.
Travis Bureau
drew a foul on a made basket and completed the three-point play at 6:45 to stretch the lead to 55-47. After a defensive stop, La’Ryan Gary drew a shooting foul and made two free throws to push the lead into double figures.
UL’s lead stayed double figures the remainder of the contest.
Randell Daigle
capped off the eight point surge with the final dagger, draining a trey at the top of the key with 4:24 left to play that increased the lead to 60-47.
The victory keeps UL in the No. 8 slot for seeding for the SBC Tournament and the chance to host a first round game. The Cajuns now own a one-game lead and also hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with FIU (6-10 SBC) for the final host spot.
The win was also Louisiana’s 12th straight over New Orleans in the CAJUNDOME.
