Louisiana Softball Signs Four Athletes

Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns softball team announced the signing of four athletes on Wednesday's National Signing Day.

Allie Chenault, Natalie Fernandez, Shelbee Rodgers and Tori Cummings have all signed National Letters of Intent to play softball for Louisiana starting in 2011. Chenault and Cummings are two Texas's most highly recruited junior softball prospects.

Allie Chenault P (Sweeny,Tx (Sweeny HS)
Chenault plays softball at Sweeny High School in Sweeny, Texas. She helped the Bulldogs win the Bi-District Championship as a sophomore before claiming the District Championship her junior season. She has earned multiple honors in the pitcher's circle including, Newcomer of the Year and All-County Pitcher of the Year her freshman season. Her sophomore season she was tabbed First Team All-District, Second Team All-County and All-State Honorable Mention. During her junior year, Chenault garnered First-Team All-State and First-Team All-County honors after posting an ERA of 0.208 with 298 strikeouts and allowing only 18 walks for the season. Chenault plays summer select ball for the Texas Magic Gold Sessum.(Also recruited by LSU and Georgia).

Tori Cummings UTIL (Rosharon,Tx (Manvel HS) Cummings is a 5'9" left hander who pitches, plays first base and outfield but is renowned for her power hitting. Cummings lettered in softball at Manvel High School in Manvel, Texas and LaPorte High School in LaPorte, Texas. The left-handed utility player is expected to graduate as a Texas Scholar Graduate and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was named the Newcomer of the Year in 2007 and was her team's captain in 2009.(Also recruited by Houston and Texas A&M.)

Shelbee Rodgers P (Greenwell Springs, La. (Central HS)
Rodgers is a pitcher at Central High School in Greenwell Springs, La. From 2007-09, she helped the Wildcats capture the Bi-District title and advanced to claim the Regional Championship in 2007 and 2008. She has been named All-District all three years, claiming Regional MVP honors in 2009. In addition, she is a three-time All-Metro honoree and was tabbed All-State LHSSWA in 2008 and 2009. In 2008 during her sophomore year, she recorded 311 strikeouts, including 18 in the state playoffs against Southwood High School. Rodgers is a teammate of Fernandez's in the summer with Louisiana Patriots.

Natalie Fernandez SS (Denham Springs, La. (Live Oak HS)
Fernandez plays both volleyball and softball at Live Oak High School in Denham Springs, La. As a shortstop for the Eagles, she helped the team advance to the state championship game her freshman and sophomore season and finished as the state runner-up. As a three-time district champion, Fernandez also advanced to the state semifinal game as a junior. She has been named All-District three times; picking up All-State honors her sophomore and junior years. In addition, she earned All-District Golden Glove and All-District Co-MVP honors the past two seasons. The Louisiana Sports Writers' Association named her Most Valuable Player after posting a .380 batting average with 26 stolen bases in 2009. Fernandez plays summer select ball for the Louisiana Patriots.
