Cajun starter T.J.Geith gave up solo homeruns to Kevin Keyes and Kevin Lusson in the fourth inning as Texas defeated Louisiana 4-2 on Saturday night to take control of the Austin Regional.
Starter T.J. Geith gave the Cajuns 8.0 strong innings, allowing six hits, giving up 3 earned runs, while walking one and striking out four.
Coach Robichaux's comments on Geith's quality start against
Texas
:
"I thought T.J. (Geith) did a great job tonight. He gave us a chance to win. Our whole big pitching philosophy in handling our pitchers is to give the team a chance to win, and he did a great job tonight. Their guy did a great job, too. The big thing is that you have to keep out of the adrenaline. They used their adrenaline on 3-0 pitches and got two balls up and out of the ballpark on us. That hurt right there, but we fought back and kept it as close as we could. Still, bases loaded really did us in. We cannot come out of there with a sac fly with the bases loaded in that situation, so you have to give Texas credit. Their kid (
Chance Ruffin
) came in and minimized the damage. He came in and traded a run for an out, and then squashed the inning. We were one or two pitches away from getting back in it."
Louisiana (38-21) could only muster seven hits against Longhorn starter
Cole Green
(11-4) through seven innings.
The Cajuns cut Texas' lead to one with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. But with runners on first and second and one out, Chance Ruffin got back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. Ruffin (6-1) earned his 14th save, striking out the last five batters he faced.
Texas (48-11) added to its lead in the ninth on Russell Moldenhauer's RBI double that scored pinch-runner Paul Montalbano.
Green allowed only two earned runs, while walking one and striking out five Cajuns.
Senior Justin Robichaux led the Cajuns at the plate with three hits on the night and Jordan Porrier added a double in the first inning.
The Cajuns will face
Rice
in a rematch Sunday afternoon at 1PM in an elimination game.
