According to reports from Ragin’Cajun beat writer Josh Parrott of the Daily Advertiser, J.J. Thomas has moved into the dorms and will officially become part of the UL program Monday when he begins class.
The “6-5”, 220-pound Thomas led Scotlandville to the 5A runner-up finish in the state championship averaging a double-double of 24.2 points and 14.5 points per game. Thomas was named All-State 5A MVP for his efforts in leading Scotlandville to the state championship game against Brother Martin in the Cajun Dome.
J.J. Thomas originally signed with Stephen F. Austin and Danny Kasper, but was recruited by Bob Marlin while at Sam Houston. It was reported the Thomas really liked Coach Marlin and had second thoughts about signing with Stephen F. Austin. Once Marlin was named head coach at UL, Thomas requested his release to return closer to home and play for Coach Marlin at UL.
In addition to J.J. Thomas, Fort Bend Dulles High (Texas) guard Bryant Mbamalu is also reported to have signed with the Cajuns in the same article.
