The finalists for the Lou Groza Placekicker award have been named, and, again, Brett Baer has been left out. Dustin Hopkins (Florida State), Cairo Santos (Tulane) and Caleb Sturgis (Florida) are having good seasons, but it's tough having the career field goal percentage leader not considered to be one of the best place kickers.
I can only guess that the voters liked accuracy more than points. Santos won the award with 21-21 field goals and 26-27 extra points, 89 total points. Hopkins accounted for 133 of FSU's points, Sturgis 101.
